The National President of Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Prince Olayiwola Shittu has sent an appeal to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col Hameed Alli (Rtd) over the training and retraining of custom agents.
Shittu made the appeal when the Customs Coordinator in charge of Zone ‘A’, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Charles Edike paid a courtesy call at the national secretariat of the association in Lagos last week.
Shittu observed that the attitude of the CG; Col. Alli towards clearing agents since he assumed office has been cold, and this has made it difficult for anyone to approach him or make a demand from him.
“The ex-CG; Dikko engaged us in a lot of training and retraining exercise, but this current one, looking at his face alone, one would be scared of asking him anything, but with you (Edike) at the Zone, we are sending you to him, tell him that our people need training” Shittu stated.
While thanking Edike and his entourage for the visit, Shittu further appealed that ANLCA, as a member of the World Customs Brokers Organization, is about being designated the regional headquarters of IFCBA for West Africa.
He said this will entail the attendance of the coming meeting scheduled for Cotonou in Benin Republic, and logistics assistance will be required.
Customs, as a body will be appealed to, in order to assist members’ attendance. This, the ACG said, will be looked into, with a view to attracting the International Organization to Nigeria.
Also, a request for two Customs officers to accompany ANLCA to Ghana to understudy how Ghana has been able to enhance revenue collection by blocking leakages was also proposed to the customs boss.
