In order to expand its scope to other region of the country, the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) in Zaria said that it has established more study centres outside the state.
Director General of the institute, Dr. Aminu Yusuf made this known last week, when he led top management of the foremost institution on a working visit to the Nigerian Shippers Council in Lagos.
Aminu said currently the institute has its presence in Gombe, Rivers, Abuja and Lagos states respectively, adding that it is aimed at reaching out to people in those parts of the country for effective professional and manpower development in the transport sector.
The DG stressed that "our short-term training programmes on the other hand are aimed at providing continuous skills acquisition and professional development of manpower in the transport industry"
"The unique mode of operation of our clients forms the basis of our tailor – made short term courses which run between one to two weeks"
"Furthermore, for the sake of expediency and ease of access to our programmes,we have established fully operational study centres in Abuja,Lagos ,Port Harcourt and Gombe states”, he added.
The Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) boss also disclosed that it is currently running Masters and Post Graduate Diploma programme with the Ahmadu Bello University for a year course, stressing that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)is also involved in designing the curriculum for all its programmes.
Aminu stated that, "in all modesty and candour, may I inform you that NITT is the apex multimodal transport training and research institute duly mandated to professionalise the transportation industry in Nigeria and beyond"
"Legally established in 1986,NITT has since then continued to train personnel employed in all modes of transport and logistics system nationwide as well as promote and conduct applied research in all modes of transport"
The NITT boss further stated that it also a training provider for the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) professional courses leading to award of National Diploma and Higher National Diplomas in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management.
