The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area LCDA Hon Ajose Peter Kumayon has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies and active community participation to tackle growing security challenges along the strategic Badagry Seme border axis.
Hon Ajose made the call on Thursday February 12 2026 at the Joint Border Security Stakeholders Engagement held at the Badagry Local Government Town Hall. The high level meeting was organised by the Joint Border Security Committee in partnership with the three Local Governments within the Badagry Federation and brought together security chiefs elected officials traditional rulers and community leaders to deliberate on pressing border security concerns.
Describing the Badagry Seme corridor as a critical economic gateway that supports international trade and regional integration Hon Ajose noted that despite its importance the area continues to face serious threats including smuggling human trafficking illicit drug movement and pockets of violent crime.
He explained that criminal networks often exploit waterways bush paths and difficult terrains to evade security operatives stressing the need for smarter intelligence led operations backed by modern technology.
The Chairman commended the Nigerian Army 243 Battalion Ibereko the Nigerian Navy FOB Badagry the Nigeria Police Force Nigeria Customs Service Nigeria Immigration Service the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC for their sustained efforts in maintaining security across border communities.
While applauding their dedication he called for better harmonisation of checkpoints and higher standards of professionalism to ensure that security measures do not unduly burden law abiding citizens.
According to him effective border security must balance firm vigilance with respect for human rights the smooth flow of legitimate economic activities and the overall welfare of the people.
Hon Ajose reaffirmed the commitment of Local Governments within the Badagry Federation to continue supporting security agencies through improved grassroots intelligence gathering community mobilisation strengthened vigilante structures and youth empowerment programmes aimed at reducing susceptibility to criminal influence.
He concluded by advocating a unified and proactive security framework anchored on timely information sharing deployment of modern surveillance tools and continuous stakeholder engagement to secure peace economic stability and safe cross border relations.
