The Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said that it is focusing its attention on providing avenue for more export through the command, even as it urged Nigerian exporters to take advantage of government's policy which provides for zero duty on export.
Speaking exclusively with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos yesterday, Public Relations Officer of the Tin Can Island Customs Command, Uche Ejesieme assured that the command has a fast and seamless documentation process which exporters should take advantage of.
He also said that the dispute resolution committee of the command has now been rejigged and empowered with the Customs Area Controller now as the Principal help desk officer. According to him, the dispute resolution committee is to solve all trade issues or disagreements among stakeholders.
He told our correspondent that the command is already collating its first quarter export activities.
"Now we are more interested in promoting export, people should take advantage of the zero duty policy of the federal government and Tin Can Island is a very seamless place both for export and import, we are going beyond import into export"
"There are many of our products needed in all parts of the world, all you need to do is go to the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to know where and where they need these products, after which you can come and take advantage of the seamless documentation process at Tin Can command, to God be the glory we are collating first quarter export activities at the command"
While stressing that export is free, Ejesieme however cautioned that intending exporters must study the export prohibition list and items banned from being exported.
He stressed that "we have been talking import and import, now it is time to talk export and let people know that this policy of the government in zero duty export incentive, they should take advantage of it"
"However, it has to be exportable items, don't forget that there are items that fall under the export prohibition list and which we don't expect you to bring, this would amount to contravening the provisions on export"
According to him, the help desk and the dispute resolution committee is geared towards ensuring that there are no delays in addressing issues that arise in the course of cargo clearance at the command.
The command has also opened a dedicated telephone line, which runs from 8am-5.30 pm daily to receive complaints on trade issues.
