For its contributions towards the success of the overall reform initiatives of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), the Nigerian Shippers’ Council last week bagged the “World Bank 2019 Doing Business Ranking Award”.
The Shippers’ Council was honoured at second annual PEBEC Awards which took place at the State House Conference Hall (Old Banquet Hall) and was hosted by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), which is chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council is one of the priority MDAs within the scope of the Ease of Doing Business Reform agenda of the Federal Government.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Industry, Trade & Investment, who is also PEBEC’s Secretary; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the PEBEC award was aimed at acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of specific arms of government, sub-national governments, ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government, as well as the private sector stakeholders who contributed significantly to the ease of doing business intervention of the current administration.
She acknowledged that the collaborative efforts and continuous support of PEBEC’s stakeholders have significantly contributed towards improving Nigeria’s business climate and overall competitiveness in line with a key strategic objective of the Economic Recovery & Growth Plan (ERGP).
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President who is also the Chairman of PEBEC, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, noted that it was needful to recognize the stakeholders who implemented the impactful and landmark reforms in 2018, as well as to recognize members of the private sector who have supported the intervention.
While congratulating the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Vice President Osinbajo, urged the it and other awardees to keep up the excellent work.
Commenting on the award, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr Hassan Bello expressed appreciation for the honour done the Council, even as he acknowledged that it was a call for more dedication to the goals of BEPEC and the Ease of Doing Business initiative of the Federal Government.
He assured that as the Economic Regulator of the ports, the Nigerian Shippers Council will continue to galvanise stakeholders towards the actualization of the objectives of Government’s policy on Ease of Doing Business.
