The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps says it has destroyed illegal oil refining and arrested six suspects for bunkering and illegal refining of petroleum products at some camps in Olokpobiri, in Warri South-West area of Delta State.
The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Chike Ikpeamonwu, who stated this on Saturday in Asaba, the state capital, said the suspects were between the ages of 18 and 30.
Ikpeamonwu said the activities of the vandals have economic and health implications, noting that efforts were on to arrest the operators behind the illegal refining activities.
He said, “It can’t be this once. They are field boys or field men. The big man is somewhere out there and we will get him.
“We are having challenges of logistics in accessing the difficult areas where the illegal refining camps were situated. Some of the exhibits have been destroyed others are still at the camps.
“One of the suspects, Friday Akokoma, confessed he got involved in oil refining to save for his mother’s funeral.
“He said his friend brought him to the camp to work and make money so that he can use it for his mother’s burial, imagine!”
The NSCDC Commandant said the raid at the Kanto camps in Olokpobiri Warri South West was one in many efforts to secure critical national infrastructure from vandalism.
