Some shipping lines have re-routed their ships around the Cape of Good Hope to avoid using the Suez and Panama Canals in either one direction or both. This includes two services that previously used the Panama Canal but have also opted for the longer route via the Cape of Good Hope.
Most of these have been previously reported in PORTS & SHIPS but with the list constantly changing here are the affected services. Those affected include: Maersk Line / Evergreen CEM Asia – Northern Europe and Mediterranean service, Maersk Line / Safmarine AE7 Asia – Northern Europe and Mediterranean service, Maersk Line / Safmarine TP6/AE6 Asia – Mediterranean service, Grand Alliance service (MISC, NYK Line, Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL) EU3 service Asia – Northern Europe, MSC Asia – Northern Europe (both directions), Maersk Line Samba service East Coast South America and Middle East, CMA CGM / China Shipping PEX2/AAE service Asia – Caribbean – Northern South America (previously through the Panama Canal) and Maersk Line / CMA CGM Columbus long-line loop US east coast via the Cape.
