The Chief Servicom Officer, Dr (Mrs) Christiana Famro has given kudos on the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for imbibing the tenets of service delivery to its stakeholders in line with the dictates of Servicom.
Mrs Famro gave the commendation last week at the opening ceremony of a sensitisation workshop for the management of the Council in Lagos. The workshop was also attended by the Council’s executive secretary, Capt. Adamu Biu.
According to the Chief Servicom Officer of the federation, the Servicom unit within the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has been doing very well irrespective of the poor attitude of the supervisory ministry of transport towards the unit.
“I am particularly delighted to note that the vision of the Shippers Council is to ensure fair trade practices in commercial shipping across all transport modes derived form its mission to evolve a highly skilled, efficient and effective agency for the promotion of fair trade practices and the protection of the nation’s interest in commercial shipping across modes”, she stressed even as she stated that the mission and vision are encapsulated in the principles underlying the idea of Servicom.
She remarked that the Council should be emulated even as she acknowledged that the evaluation of Servicom in most agencies of government revealed the tenets of Servicom has not been imbibed at all. She declared that officials of government agencies have largely been serving themselves and not the people.
And regaling inn the commendation, Capt. Biu disclosed that even before the advent of Servicom, the Nigerian Shippers Council has always understood that it was established to serve.
“The issue is that even before Servicom as far as I know, we have tried to live up to expectations; we know that we were set up to serve Nigerian importers and exporters, and by the nature of our business, we really are in touch with the markets, we have to identify ourselves with traders, those who import and export, you can not afford to be anything but ready to render service to people”, he stated.
“The man whom you are serving is the man who is investing his money and when he is investing his money, he expects results, profits, courtesy and efficiency, and if you must do your job properly to satisfy him, you have to possess these attributes; you must be efficient, you must be patient and courteous. So it is imbibed in us, so Servicom just came to seal it up for us, it has been there in the Council and I am happy I inherited a Council that was properly founded”, he told journalist in response to the accolades..
