VIN: Motor Dealers Association Shut Down Car Lots In Solidarity With Clearing Agents

The Lagos State Motor Dealers Association has shut down all car marts in Lagos State in solidarity with licensed customs agents against the sharp increase in the costs of clearing vehicle at the nation’s seaports.

In a letter sent out to all members and which was exclusively obtained by our correspondent on Thursday, the association decided that all members should shut down their car lots (Autos sales showrooms) on Friday the 25th of February 2022 from morning till 12 noon, in solidarity with the current strike action embarked upon by Clearing Agents against the sharp increase in the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) valuation.

The letter signed by its General Secretary, Olanira Tia,urged the auto dealers to understand that the body is fighting their cause explaining that the higher the cost of clearing a car, the more unaffordable it becomes.

It was also decided that any auto dealer that fails to abide by the decision will have his/her showroom locked up by its taskforce till Monday, the 28th of February 2022 as the only penalty for disobedience:

Troops Destroy 38 Illegal Refining Sites, Recover Stolen Products In N/Delta – DHQ

The Defence Headquarters, says troops of Operation Delta Safe have destroyed 38 illegal refining sites in the Niger Delta region within two weeks.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, made this known on Thursday in Abuja while giving updates of military operations across the country from Feb. 10 to Feb. 24 .

Onyeuko said that 100 metal storage tanks, 25 dugout pits, 75 cooking ovens, 20 Cotonou boats, 35 Yamaha pumping machines, 15 coolants as well as 10 tankers were recovered from the refining sites.

He added that 35 galvanised pipes illegally connected were also destroyed.

According to him, 13 economic saboteurs associated with pipeline vandalism were arrested while recovered items and apprehended criminals have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further actions.

Onyeuko said the troops recovered 1.1 million litres of illegal Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and 2.0 litres of stolen crude oil during the period.

He said the operations were conducted in different locations in creeks, villages, towns and communities in Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River and Abia.
