NAGAFF Celebrates 23rd Anniversary, Charges Freight Forwarders On Compliance

The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has charged freight forwarders and their principals to embrace compliance to trade laws for national interest and professional development.

While speaking at the 23rd anniversary of the association at its headquarters in Lagos on Friday, the founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam noted that the association was birthed in 1999 with a vision to usher in a sustainable freight forwarding profession in Nigeria that will change the narratives in its operational modes.

Aniebonam stressed that over the years, the association has been able to build capacity and empower many young frieght forwarders particularly through adequate and necessary knowledge and education in the the practice of freight forwarding in Nigeria.

He however called on all members of the association to be law abiding ,stressing on the need to equip themselves with relevant information in the industry.

Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the National President of the association, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi said NAGAFF has made several milestone in roles and achievements beyond the Freight forwarding subsector of the Maritime Industry through concerted efforts and consistency towards proactive Public Policy Advocacy.

Ezisi said going forward, NAGAFF will rejig its strategic partnership and canvass for common fronts via memorandum of understanding towards achieving professional essence and uniformity of purpose.

He also noted that the association shall mark her Silver Anniversary by launching a book titled “The Chronology Of A Proactive Professional Association: The NAGAFF Experience”.

The National President however thanked all critical stakeholders in the port, and supply chain for their understanding and cooperation towards ensuring the smooth drive of the chain towards achieving the security, safety and revenue concerns of the government.

“It will be repetitive to recount the myriads of challenges facing the freight forwarding profession in Nigeria, rather the NAGAFF is resolute to champion such advocacy that will compel the concerned authorities to rise to the occasion and cause the much desire changes to happen, as such we plead not to belabour you with these myriads of challenges which you already had dossier of

“It has been resolved by the management that, in two years time when the NAGAFF shall mark her Silver Anniversary, a book “The Chronology Of A Proactive Professional Association The NAGAFF Experience shall be launched

“Going forward, the NAGAFF will redust its strategic partnership and canvass for a common fronts via memorandum of understanding towards achieving professional essence and uniformity of purpose.

“On a final note, the NAGAFF wishes to call on the freight forwarders and their principals to show cause for reasonable compliance to trade laws for national interest sake and professional sake. By next year, the NAGAFF shall broaden its quest for compliance in cargo handling operations in and out” Ezisi said.
