The Lekki Deep Seaport is expected to receive the first commercial vessel today (Friday). This signals commencement of commercial operations in the multimillion Naira port located in the eastern flank of Lagos.
The vessel is coming in about four months after President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the port in January.
Recall that Shipping Position Daily had exclusively reported that the vessel will be coming in today, following the visit of the executives of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) to the Lekki Freeport Terminal last week.
Findings by our correspondent revealed that the name of the ship is GSL ALICE; coming from Lome, Togo. The length of the vessel is 228m.
Evenas operations have commenced, it is believed that barges will be used to convey containers from the port, to facilities outside the port, to other parts of the country as the road construction is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the acting president of ANLCA, Dr Kayode Farinto has urged the Lekki Free Port terminal to ensure seamless evacuation of cargoes from the port during his recent visit to the terminal.
