The Acting Comptroller-General of Customs Service (NCS) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi  has announced his commitment to enhancing trade activities in the northeastern region of Nigeria.

On Thursday, he conveyed his intention to strengthen the trade landscape during a courtesy visit by Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, to the Customs Headquarters in Abuja.

The Acting CGC emphasized that this initiative would invigorate the local economy and generate employment opportunities within the state. Adeniyi, acknowledging the longstanding partnership between the Customs Service and the Borno State Government in areas of border security and humanitarian services, also pledged his support for victims of terrorism in the state.

In his discourse on improving community relations, Adeniyi stated, “In moving forward, your support will be crucial in engaging with the border communities in Borno. With the degradation of insurgency, we will further cultivate our existing rapport to foster positive relationships with Cameroon and the southern part of Chad.”

Assuring Governor Zulum, Adeniyi affirmed his administration’s dedication to collaborating with the military to devise innovative strategies for reinstating a robust framework for cross-border trade in the region.

Earlier, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State extended his congratulations to CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on his appointment as the Comptroller-General of Customs, acknowledging the organization’s significant role in improving the lives of displaced communities in Borno and other parts of the northeastern region.

Governor Zulum applauded the Customs Service for its benevolent efforts in distributing both food and non-food items to the displaced individuals, thereby easing the hardship endured by victims of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Expressing his desire to collaborate with the Customs Service, Governor Zulum conveyed his intention to enhance transborder trade in the northeast, specifically in Borno State. He sought the cooperation of the Service in facilitating the movement of goods across Nigeria borders with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, as peace gradually returned to Borno State.
