The MSC KATYAYNI encountered engine failure and had to be towed for six days from an area around 300 nautical miles off the coast of Vigo, Spain.
The MSC KATYAYNI is a Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel that is 275m long and 40 m wide. It departed on February 16th from the port of Altamira, Mexico, and was scheduled to arrive this weekend at the port of Antwerp, Belgium.
However, the ship encountered a breakdown in its propulsion system on 29th February 2024, setting the ship adrift.
MSC KATYAYNI subsequently had to be towed by the “VB Hispania,” a unit from the Boluda fleet. The vessel reached the port of Vigo on March 5th and is safely moored there.
