In a significant victory against fuel smuggling, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), through its Operations Whirlwind Zone A team, has intercepted 30,225 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at ₦30,225,000 in the Lagos/Ogun axis.

The seizure, which included 849 kegs of PMS and two Mazda 626 vehicles used for conveyance, marks another major milestone in the unit’s aggressive clampdown on smuggling activities.

Speaking during a press briefing in Lagos, Comptroller Kehinde Ejibunu, National Coordinator of Operations Whirlwind, disclosed that the operation has continued to yield results, disrupting illegal fuel trade and ensuring the availability of PMS in legitimate filling stations across the country.

“This operation has tightened the noose on smugglers, leaving them with no breathing space for their illegal activities. We remain resolute in blocking all smuggling routes leading to neighboring countries,” Ejibunu stated.

He noted that the latest confiscation is part of a broader effort to secure Nigeria’s fuel supply chain and curb economic sabotage. Ejibunu further commended the unwavering support of the National Security Adviser and the Comptroller General of Customs, which he said has been instrumental in the operation’s success.

With this seizure and the continued efforts of the Customs team, the fight against fuel smuggling is set to intensify, safeguarding Nigeria’s resources and ensuring fuel reaches the citizens who need it most.
