The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has inaugurated a new unit, the Silo Cargo Truck Owners, under its Dockworkers Branch. The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected executives took place on Monday, February 24, 2025, at the union’s Secretariat in Lagos.
The newly-appointed executives of the Silo Bulk Cargo Truck Owners unit include Comrade Olarenwaju Taofeek as Chairman and Comrade Afolabi Michael as Vice Chairman. Other members of the executive team are Okunade Olalekan (Secretary), Kenneth Ledum (Assistant Secretary), Adeogun Ayodele (Treasurer), Amao Samuel (Organiser), and Godspower Echendu (Assistant Organiser). Additionally, Comrade Olukiran Idowu serves as Auditor, Oyeniran Monsuru as Financial Secretary, and Okelola Fatai and Oyedepo Saheed as Ex-officio members.
During the ceremony, MWUN President General, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, urged the new executives to avoid any form of illegitimate activities, emphasizing that the union’s leadership would not tolerate any misconduct. He congratulated the executives while reiterating the importance of discipline and adherence to due process in line with the union’s constitution.
Similarly, the President of the Dockworkers Branch, Comrade Tajudeen Ibrahim Ohize, advised the newly elected officers to strictly follow the union’s rules and regulations.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Olarenwaju Taofeek, Chairman of the Silo Cargo Truck Owners, expressed gratitude to the MWUN leadership for the opportunity. He pledged to uphold the union’s principles and guidelines while ensuring the loyalty of members to the district, branch, and national officers of the union.
