The implementation of the International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN), a key system designed to enhance cargo tracking and improve efficiency in Nigeria’s maritime sector, has been delayed, with the Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) now promising that it will roll out the system in the second quarter of 2025.
During a recent discussion with the Director of Consumer Affairs at the Nigeria Shippers Council, Mr. Celestine Akujobi, he assured stakeholders that efforts are ongoing and that while the rollout of the ICTN is not yet finalized, the public will be informed when the system is ready for deployment. He emphasized that the process involves multiple stakeholders, both government and private, and that these various parties are working diligently to ensure a smooth implementation.
Mr. Akujobi acknowledged the delays but assured industry players and the public that progress is being made. “You understand that things like these are not just the responsibility of the Shippers Council; there are several stakeholders involved,” he stated. “When everything is in place, you will be informed.”
While specific details on the ICTN’s functionality and features remain scarce for now, Akujobi requested patience from the public as the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Shippers’ Council continue their work on the initiative. He expressed optimism about the prospects of the ICTN’s successful launch in the coming months, particularly within the second quarter of 2025.
