The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA) has congratulated the leadership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on the successful conduct of elections across its four major branches, describing the outcome as a milestone for maritime labour unity and seafarers’ representation.

In a press statement made available to our correspondent on Monday, the National President of the Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA), Chief Engineer Bob Joseph Yousuo expressed profound joy over the outcome of the elections, particularly celebrating the historic emergence of a representative from the Seafarers/Inland Waterways branch as the President-General of MWUN for the first time in the union’s history.

“This is a great milestone for our sister union. As Africa’s number one seafarer, I am filled with joy and optimism that this new development will mark a fresh chapter for the advancement of seafarers’ welfare in Nigeria” Engineer Yousuo remarked.

He also pledged to deepen collaboration between NMNOWTSSA and MWUN to collectively improve the condition of Nigerian seafarers and promote unity within the maritime labour community.

While applauding the leadership and electoral committee of MWUN for the smooth conduct of the branch elections held across various arms of the union—namely the Seamen/NLW Branch, Dockworkers Branch, Shipping Branch, and NPA Branch elections which was concluded on Monday 30th June—Chief Yousuo congratulated all newly elected branch presidents and their executive members.

He urged the new executives to embrace teamwork, dedication, and integrity in their leadership roles for the benefit of the entire maritime workforce.
