NIMASA Gets New Maritime Guard Commander

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has announced the appointment of Commodore Reginald Odeodi Adoki as the new Commander of its Maritime Guard Command, following the approval of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abbas.

Commodore Adoki takes over from Commodore H. C. Oriekeze, who has been redeployed to another assignment. His appointment signals a continued collaboration between NIMASA and the Nigerian Navy in strengthening maritime security and regulatory enforcement across Nigeria’s territorial waters.

A principal Warfare Officer with specialisation in communications and intelligence, Commodore Adoki brings 25 years of wide-ranging experience spanning training, staff duties and naval operations. As a seaman officer, he has commanded several naval platforms, including NNS Andoni, NNS Kyanwa and NNS Kada. Notably, he led NNS Kada on her maiden voyage from the United Arab Emirates, the country of build, to Nigeria.

Commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2000, Commodore Adoki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He later obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and an MSc in Terrorism, Security and Policing from the University of Leicester, England. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Defence and Security Studies at the National Defence Academy. A highly decorated officer, he has received several medals in recognition of distinguished service.

Welcoming the new Maritime Guard Commander, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dayo Mobereola, expressed confidence that Commodore Adoki’s wealth of experience would further strengthen Nigeria’s maritime security architecture and enhance the Agency’s operational effectiveness.

The Maritime Guard Command, domiciled within NIMASA, was established under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency and the Nigerian Navy. The Command plays a critical role in supporting NIMASA’s mandate by enforcing maritime security, safety and regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s territorial waters
