Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, on Thursday received newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Mr Tunji Disu, in Abuja.
The minister’s Media Adviser, Dr Bolaji Akinola, disclosed this in a statement issued in Lagos.
Oyetola congratulated Disu on his appointment, describing it as well deserved and expressing confidence in his capacity to provide effective leadership for the police.
“I warmly congratulate you on your appointment as Inspector-General of Police.
“Your professionalism and service inspire confidence that you will excel and strengthen our country’s security architecture,” Oyetola said.
He described the visit as timely, stressing that inter-agency synergy remains central to the Federal Government’s blue economy agenda.
The minister said the ministry would work closely with law enforcement agencies to keep Nigeria’s waters safe, secure and conducive to investment.
“The maritime sector holds enormous promise for economic diversification and job creation.
“To unlock its potential, we must guarantee safety and order through seamless cooperation among relevant agencies,” Oyetola said.
Disu thanked the minister for the commendation and reaffirmed his readiness to collaborate with ministries linked to national security and economic development.
He said the Nigeria Police Force would support strategic sectors, including the maritime domain, through intelligence-led operations and partnerships.
Disu pledged deeper institutional collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Nigeria Police Force.
He said cooperation would prioritise coordinated operations across coastal and inland waterways.
The I-G reaffirmed the force’s readiness to enhance patrols, intelligence-led policing and enforcement against criminal activities on the waterways.
Both men highlighted the maritime domain’s growing strategic importance to national prosperity.
They agreed to sustain regular dialogue and operational coordination to improve surveillance, response capacity and inter-agency information sharing
