The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association Nigeria (WISTA Nigeria) has congratulated its President, Dr. Odunayo Ani, on her conferment of the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Merit Award in the Members’ Diamond Category.
In a statement issued by the Executive Committee on behalf of members and Diamonds of the association, WISTA Nigeria described the recognition as a well-deserved honour for a distinguished professional and transformational leader whose contributions have impacted the accounting profession, maritime industry, and women empowerment.
According to the association, the award reflects Dr. Ani’s years of dedication to professional integrity, strategic advocacy, capacity development, and mentorship, which have earned her respect within both the financial and maritime sectors.
The statement noted that under her leadership, WISTA Nigeria has continued to advance advocacy for increased female participation in shipping, logistics, trade, and transport, while also promoting mentorship and professional development opportunities for women professionals.
“Dr. Odunayo Ani’s remarkable journey reflects resilience, professionalism, and service. This prestigious recognition by ICAN further validates her immense contributions to national development and the empowerment of women within the maritime industry and beyond,” the statement read.
Also speaking at the occasion was former Director of Administration at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril, who commended Dr. Ani for her professionalism, dedication, and impactful leadership.

Jibril, who is also a former President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria and the current International Vice President of CILT International, recalled working closely with Dr. Ani during his time at NIMASA and described her as an accomplished administrator committed to excellence.
He encouraged her to continue making significant contributions to the accounting profession while sustaining her advocacy and mentorship efforts for women in the maritime sector, noting that her achievements remain a source of inspiration to younger professionals.
Reaffirming its pride in the accomplishment, the WISTA Executive Committee stated that the award was thoroughly deserved and expressed confidence that Dr. Ani would continue to raise the bar in leadership and professional excellence.
