The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has ranked the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) among Nigeria’s top-performing government agencies in trade facilitation in its 2025 Business Facilitation Act Compliance Assessment.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, following the release of the assessment on July 3.
Maiwada said Zahrah Audu, the Director-General (D-G) of the PEBEC said the service met all prescribed compliance standards.
He quoted the D-G saying that the service also recorded significant improvement in the speed and responsiveness of its trade-related services, ranking it among the highest-performing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) evaluated.
“The NCS stood out by meeting all the required standards while recording notable improvements in the timeliness and efficiency of its response to trade-related matters,” Audu said.
She added that the performance reflects a more transparent and business-friendly trading environment.
Audu attributed the outcome to NCS’s sustained focus on operational efficiency and stakeholder experience, describing it as consistent with the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda.
She also disclosed that 98 per cent of the 69 MDAs assessed under the Business Facilitation Act met expected service delivery standards.
The figure, she said, demonstrated that reforms under the Act were improving government service delivery across the country.
The NCS spokesperson said the recognition followed several reforms introduced by the service to modernise customs administration, including the B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme and the Advance Ruling System.
He said the initiatives had simplified import and export procedures, reduced cargo clearance delays and improved transparency in customs operations.
