The African Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) has commended the Minister of Transportation; Mr Rotimi Amaechi for his commitment to the Council For the Regulations of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) election.
In a letter of commendation addressed to the Minister and signed by the National President of APFFLON, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, a copy of which was sighted by our correspondent, the association lauded the timely decision of the Minister to address the lacuna that has existed at the Council since the expiration of the last Governing Council in November, 2020.
APFFLON noted that the decision to have the process open to all registered members of CRFFN, would give more qualified individuals opportunities and as well curb practice of godfatherism and high gimmicks of some freight forwarding groups.
APFFLON however noted that as part of efforts to collaborate with the Transport Ministry, to ensure that the election is organized in a very free, fair and credible manner, the association in partnership with other freight forwarding associations, has constituted an Election Monitoring Team to help forestall malpractices.
It suggested that the group which cut across the various associations coming together to form a monitoring team demonstrates unity of purpose among practitioners, while stating that all they desire is achieving a singular goal, which is to have credible and hitch-free Governing Council election that would pave way for a more productive CRFFN.
The association also noted that despite the claims that having the election in Abuja poses logistics constraints, it said the association fully endorses the Abuja venue stating that the venue would limit the influx of riffraff and touts that could have been easily mobilized to cause chaos in Lagos.
The group also urged the Minister to ensure that subsequent elections be electronically organized in line with global best standards, adding that utilizing automation for the polls would also reduce human interface amid the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, as well as display the level of innovation the Council and the Transport Ministry can attain.
The letter reads in part ” we write to commend the Honorable Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and the entire leadership of the Ministry for the commitment to organize the upcoming Governing Council elections for the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
“We applaud this timely decision to have this election which addresses the lacuna that was created at CRFFN since the expiration of the last Governing Council in November, 2020.
“Your decision to have the process open to individual members of CRFFN is also a commendable one as it gives more qualified people opportunities, curbs the practice of godfatherism and the high level gimmicks of some freight forwarding groups.

“As part of efforts to collaborate with the Transport Ministry in a bid to attain hitch-free elections organized in a credible manner, APFFLON in partnership with other freight forwarding associations has constituted an Election Taskforce to curb possible malpractices.
“Despite the claims that having the impending election in Abuja poses logistics constraints, APFFLON fully endorses the Abuja venue because it would limit the influx of riffraffs and touts that could have been easily mobilized to cause chaos in Lagos.
“We, however, suggest that subsequent elections should be electronic in line with automation which is the global best standard for such development. Utilizing online strategies for the polls would also reduce human interface amid the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic and display the level of innovation that CRFFN and the Transport Ministry deserves.
