A 25-year old crane operator and staff of one of the terminal operators, AP Moller Terminal has been arraigned before an Apapa Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a container.
The accused person –Tunde Tobalase, was said to have been nabbed on September 27, 2008 at about seven o’clock in the evening at the AP Moller Terminal, Lagos Port Complex, Apapa while attempting to steal the container with number MOGU 0039984.
He was alleged to have criminally conspired with others still at large to commit the alleged offence contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal Code.
Prosecuting Police Sergeant Edwards Iyadi informed the court that the accused person and others still at large stole the container valued at over =N=80 Million property of AP Moller.
The alleged offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 390 (9) CC. When the two count charge was read out to the accused person, he pleaded not guilty.
It was gathered that the police were able to recover the stolen container which the accused person was alleged to have moved from one area of the terminal to another area within the terminal with the intention of moving it out.
Before adjourning the case till October 27, the Chief Magistrate O.A. Okunuga granted the accused a =N=500,000 bail.
The court further ordered that two reputable sureties must be provided before the bail could be perfected.
