The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, welcomed a delegation from the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation, led by NAGAFF’s National President, High Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, aimed to explore ways to enhance the longstanding relationship between both organizations.
During his address, CGC Adeniyi expressed his appreciation for the visit, underscoring the need for greater synergy between the NCS and NAGAFF. “These are all possibilities, and we will be willing to work with you,” he stated, reiterating the Customs Service’s openness to expanding collaborative opportunities.
The Customs Chief lauded NAGAFF’s dedication and resilience in advocating for improved practices within the freight forwarding industry, noting the importance of their continuous engagements in identifying potential areas for mutual benefit. Adeniyi stressed that the association’s proactive stance in customs operations has fostered a progressive partnership, which remains essential for both trade facilitation and national security.
Adeniyi took the opportunity to update the NAGAFF delegation on several transformative projects within the NCS, focusing on initiatives aimed at boosting trade facilitation, enhancing border security, and integrating advanced technology into customs processes. He highlighted a series of ongoing projects that are intended to streamline operations and increase efficiency, signaling the NCS’s commitment to modernizing customs practices.
In an expression of goodwill, the CGC also confirmed his intention to participate in NAGAFF’s upcoming Silver Jubilee Anniversary, commending the association’s significant contributions over the years. He recognized NAGAFF as a crucial stakeholder in shaping customs policy and procedures, acknowledging its vital role in supporting the NCS’s mandate.
In response, NAGAFF’s National President, High Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, congratulated CGC Adeniyi on his achievements since assuming office, noting his efforts toward national economic growth and enhanced security. “Your remarkable achievements since assuming office cannot be overstated,” Ezisi remarked, acknowledging the strides made by Adeniyi and his team.
Highlighting the association’s upcoming Silver Jubilee Anniversary, Ezisi reflected on the long-standing collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, which has endured for a quarter of a century. He formally invited CGC Adeniyi to attend the event, where the NAGAFF would celebrate its enduring partnership with the Customs Service and unveil its newly constructed N500 million Secretariat.
Ezisi also assured the CGC of NAGAFF’s active engagement in the forthcoming CGC Conference, where the association aims to contribute further to the shared vision of progress within the customs and freight forwarding sectors.
The NAGAFF delegation included prominent members of its leadership, such as Chief Afam Chukwuma, Deputy National President (Seaport) and Chairman of the Silver Jubilee Organising Committee; Igwe Kingsley, National Secretary; Princess Chi Eze, National Vice President (Western Port); and Melody Obehi, National Treasurer, among others.
