Civil Defence Nabs Pipeline Vandals

A member of a notorious gang which specialises in  vandalising pipelines belonging to the NNPC has been arrested by operatives of the Niger State command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
A member of the gang, 30-year-old Musa Samuel was arrested last week at Gwashipe in the Gurara Local Government area of the state with 41 jerry cans loaded with kerosene.
However, six, other members of the gang escaped. Among those who escaped is    their driver, a Fulani herdsman, both of whom escaped in the gang’s get- away and operational vehicle. According to NSCDC, men of the agency’s special squad had previously noticed that the pipeline which runs through the village had been vandalised and laid ambushed for the vandals who unsuspectingly went for the containers to freight their loot after breaking the pipes.
The NSCDC reportedly laid ambush for the vandals who came in a bus and jerry cans. As they filled each jerry can with kerosene, they took it to the waiting vehicle returning for more of the containers to be filled.
It was learnt that when the NSCDC officials knew they had got enough evidence against the vandals, they moved in, but, unfortunately, only one of the vandals, Musa Samuel, was apprehended as the others escaped into the bush.
