The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Tincan Island Port Command, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has outlined his strategy to meet and exceed the revenue target set for the command.

This is even as he emphasized his commitment to trade facilitation, with a strict focus on promoting legitimate trade and businesses.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the executive members of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN), Comptroller Onyeka expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for entrusting him with the position. He pledged to repay the CGC’s confidence through dedication and performance.

“I’ll facilitate trade, but it has to be legitimate trade,” Onyeka stated. “It is my prayer and hope to meet my target and surpass it. I have secured the buy-in of my officers to ensure the trust reposed in me by the service’s management is not dashed.”

The CAC disclosed that he has engaged various units, including the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Valuation Unit, to ensure seamless operations. He stressed the importance of thorough examination of cargoes to ensure compliance with customs regulations.

“I have appealed to my officers to ensure every container is examined thoroughly. This will enable us to determine what is legitimate and facilitate the release of compliant goods. It’s my prayer that all of us work together to make the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a reality,” he added.

Comptroller Onyeka commended his predecessor, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Dera Nnadi, for his achievements in anti-smuggling, revenue generation, infrastructure development, and public relations. He vowed to build on the foundation laid by Nnadi and further enhance the command’s performance.

“In anti-smuggling, he did well. In revenue generation, he did superbly. His public relations were top-notch, and I intend to leverage that to build even better rapport with stakeholders and the media,” Onyeka said.

The MARAN President, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere, assured the CAC of the association’s support in achieving the command’s goals. He reiterated MARAN’s commitment to fostering a productive partnership with the new leadership of the Tincan Island Port Command.

With these strategies and collaborations in place, Comptroller Onyeka is poised to make significant strides in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and overall operational efficiency at the Tincan Island Port Command.
