Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Seme Command, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, has officially launched the second edition of his book, “Customs Administration in Nigeria”, describing it as a timely response to the evolving challenges in customs operations and a roadmap for professional excellence in border management.

According to an official press statement signed by the Command’s Spokesman, CSC Isah Sulaiman noted that notable intellectual milestone was launched on Wednesday at the Command at Seme-Krake Border.

Speaking during the formal launch, Comptroller Oramalugo, who currently serves as the Customs Area Controller at Seme Border, described the book as a culmination of years of hands-on experience, academic inquiry, and policy work. He said the updated edition reflects current challenges in customs administration, incorporates reforms introduced under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and aligns with global best practices in trade facilitation, security, and border management.

“The dynamism of global trade, the rise of digital customs, and the expanding role of Customs in national security all demand a scholarly response. This book aspires to offer a practical framework for understanding, navigating, and improving customs systems in Nigeria and similar jurisdictions.” Dr. Oramalugo stated.

He encouraged officers of the Nigeria Customs Service to embrace intellectual development and continuous learning, noting that a well-informed officer is more likely to drive institutional excellence. “A knowledgeable officer is a more effective officer. A disciplined mind is a catalyst for institutional excellence,” he said.

The event drew the presence of several top officials from various security and regulatory agencies at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post. Among those in attendance were the Comptrollers of Immigration from the Joint Border Post and Land Border Patrol, Directors of the Department of State Services (DSS), NAFDAC, and Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS), as well as representatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Police Force Anti-Bomb Unit, and Port Health Services.

In their goodwill messages, the dignitaries applauded Comptroller Oramalugo for his scholarly contribution and his role in promoting professionalism within the service. They also commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its evolving contributions to economic development and national security under the current administration.

Oramalugo extended his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the publication, including editors, reviewers, and the management team of the Customs Service. He acknowledged the Comptroller-General of Customs for fostering a culture of knowledge and reform within the Service.

Now in its second edition, Customs Administration in Nigeria is positioned to become a key reference for policymakers, researchers, professionals, and students involved in customs operations and border management within Nigeria and the wider West African region.
