The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN); Alhaji Abubakar Tsanni has said that the N5.9billion 2020 budget estimate of the council will be for infrastructure development.
He also said that 65% of proceeds from the Practitioners Operating Fee (POF) will go to the federation account.
The Chairman, who said this in a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Apapa Lagos week, also explained that the remaining 35% will be used for the training of freight forwarders.
Tsanni however reiterated the need for the council to have zonal offices especially at the border post which according to him will be taken care of by the budget.
“Let me say something, when you check what is in the N5.9billion budget for the council in this 2019/2020; it is all infrastructure, building of offices where we are going to stay. As we told you earlier, if you will remember the CRFFN is a small baby that is trying to grow, we just started getting our budget in 2017, whereby we are trying to build some zonal offices”
“Immediately we start the collection (of POF) we won’t need federal government money again we will be giving to federal government, that is why we are saying that about 65% of the POF will go to the federal government while the remaining will be for the training of the freight forwarders”, he said.
Throwing light on the vehicles given to council members, he said it is paramount for them to function effectively.
“All these are for zonal offices where we need to have offices there especially in the borders, that is where the monies are going and you can’t rule out the collection especially in the borders without the vehicles. That is the reason why each head of the unit is attached with a vehicle”
“For instance, enforcement, you can’t enforce when you don’t have a vehicle, that is why it is necessary all the committees need a vehicle so that they can be able to perform all their operational duties, that is why they have the vehicles”, he concluded.
