The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has called for renewed global support and technical collaboration as Nigeria moves forward with the implementation of the National Single Window (NSW) project.
Speaking at the 2024 World Ports Conference in Hamburg, Germany, Dantsoho emphasized the importance of international cooperation as Nigeria accelerates the deployment of the NSW.
He noted that the system would significantly enhance port efficiency by eliminating the human interface that has long hindered trade facilitation efforts. “The renewed energy driving the NSW project is critical to improving port operations, but it also requires robust international technical support to meet and surpass global standards,” Dantsoho said.
He further credited the progress of the Port Community System (PCS), a key component of the NSW, to the backing of Nigeria’s Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola. The PCS is seen as a vital step towards achieving full implementation of the NSW and improving overall port operations.
In response to a call from the President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), Jens Meier, for increased collaboration on decarbonization efforts, Dantsoho highlighted the NPA’s commitment to eco-friendly initiatives. “Our ongoing port modernization programme is firmly aligned with sustainability goals, ensuring that environmental considerations are at the forefront,” he said.
The 2024 IAPH World Ports Conference, which runs from October 8 in Hamburg, focuses on the theme “Managing Risk, Building Resilience, and Unlocking Opportunities at Ports.” The event has drawn global port leaders to discuss strategies for navigating the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing maritime landscape.
