The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has closed down one illegal jetty in Lagos.
This was contained in a statement issued by DPR’s Deputy Director (Public Affairs); Mrs Bilema Osibodu, in Lagos yesterday.
Found at the site of the illegal jetty were two barges laden with Automated Gas Oil (diesel) of about two million litres, as well as three abandoned ships allegedly used by the accused operators to transport the products.

The DPR statement confirmed that it acted on a tip-off, “Our attention has been drawn to the nefarious activities of some unscrupulous elements of the society who engage in deliberate contamination of petroleum products, purportedly being sold as diesel,’’ she said.
Osibodu said that a raid was carried out on the jetty at Marina, Lagos Island, where many barges and vessels laden with about two million litres of off-specification diesel were discovered.
She said that the suspects were arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution.
“The department is concerned about this unwholesome activity and hereby advises consumers of Automotive Gas Oil or diesel nationwide to source and purchase their petroleum products from only reputable retail outlets.
“We assure consumers that we have intensified our quality monitoring exercises to checkmate the nefarious activities,’’ she said.
