After months of disagreements and negotiations, the much-expected electronic call-up of trucks on the ever-busy Lekki-Epe corridor takes-off today (Friday)
Sources close to the implementing organs confirmed to our correspondent on Thursday, that ahead of today’s expected kick-off, another round of meetings had been held with stakeholders, especially road haulage operators.
Sources also hinted that ahead of today, a free test-run had been conducted during which trucks were allowed to use the truck parks free of charge during which they were able to get used to the workings of the electronic call-up system.
Recall that the take-off had hit the rocks on a number of occasions on account of disagreement between the stakeholders, especially truck and tanker owners and the Lagos state government.
However, the state government disclosed that all contending issues have been resolved and about 10,000 trucks have already registered ahead of its August 1 rollout.
Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, disclosed this in a statement.
She said enforcement of the e-call-up system would begin on Aug. 1, following months of planning, stakeholder engagement, and public sensitisation.
She also disclosed that the stakeholders had agreed to a reduction of the park usage fee from ₦12,500 to ₦10,000.
She added that, seven designated truck parks have been fully equipped and are ready for operation.
According to her, to ensure smooth implementation, the ministry and e-call-up technologies began a familiarisation exercise across all approved parks.
Ogunlola said the initiative includes free system testing and guidance for truck drivers on registration and operations.
She confirmed that around 10,000 trucks have already registered, with more currently joining the platform.
The project aims to streamline truck movement, reduce traffic congestion, end illegal parking, and promote compliance among operators.
It is also expected to boost traffic flow, protect road infrastructure, improve safety, and stimulate economic activity in the area.
Ogunlola urged stakeholders to complete registration and cooperate with agencies for the success of the initiative.
She noted the move represents a further step towards a smarter, more efficient transport system in Lagos.
