Experts Urge Strategic Approaches To Boost Exports

Dr John Isemede, an expert in export business training, has highlighted the need for a more structured trade policy framework to boost Nigeria’s export value.

Isemede, former Director General of NACCIMA, made the call on Friday in Lagos during the National Business Masterclass (NBM) training.

He urged both new and established exporters to familiarise themselves with the export processes of the countries they are trading with to ensure the acceptance of their goods.

He further emphasised that understanding risk assessments, standards, and insurance processes in receiving countries would give exporters a competitive edge.

“Exporters should use clear packaging materials with the correct languages to reach the target audience and ensure the product is accepted,” he said.

He also noted that knowledge of international trade dynamics, insurance mechanisms, and export processes is crucial to doing business properly.

Also, Ojei Uche, a facilitator at the event, advised exporters to explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, such as machine learning, robotics, and export systems.

Uche pointed out that AI has the potential to transform all aspects of export processes, offering new opportunities and efficiencies.

He noted that AI helps identify new market opportunities, stay ahead of competitors, and supports efficient logistics while ensuring compliance with global standards.

“You’ll be amazed at how AI can solve multilingual challenges, handle time differences, and provide predictive analysis in export processes,” he said.

According to him, AI also supports scalability, particularly for small businesses, and enables automated compliance, further enhancing the export process.

Mrs Ose Efe, another facilitator, encouraged exporters to leverage platforms like TikTok, WhatsApp Meta AI, and others to reach broader audiences and improve exports.

She stressed the importance of digital marketing tools to gather accurate data and expand global reach.

“It’s essential to consider which applications work in certain countries and tailor content to suit different regions, even within Nigeria,” she said.
