A business delegation from Finland has indicated interest in collaborating with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), especially in the areas of engineering construction as well as  ship building and repairs.

Speaking through a delegation which was headed by the Minister for Trade and Development Dr. Paavo Vayrynen, and accompanied by the Ambassador of Finland to Nigeria Ms Anneli Vourinen, the Business community expressed its desire to promote business opportunities in Nigeria.

The minister who was represented by the ambassador at a meeting with the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, observed the strong economic growth in Nigeria in recent years inspite of the effects of the global economic crisis.

The goal of their visit according to him was to explore opportunities and examine ways to further improve bilateral economic relations.

While welcoming the delegation, the Managing Director Nigeria Ports Authority Mallam Abdul salam Mohammed  who was represented by the General Manager Western Ports ,Mallam Mohammed Bulangu  outlined the history & structure of the Organisation and most notably  the success of the Port Reforms by the Federal Government Of Nigeria.

According to him, the reforms which brought about the delineation and concession of terminals to private operators have resulted in improved efficiency and delivery of port services.

He further stated that the reforms had thrown open investment opportunities in the areas of marine, equipment leasing and other auxiliary services and some of these opportunities are being taken up by world class companies.

The Managing Director invited the government of Finland to take advantage of these opportunities which include among others the tenders being put in place for independent power supply projects.

The delegation which had earlier on visited port facilities in the Lagos area were accompanied by other top management staff of Nigerian Ports Authority.
