A former National Secretary of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and one-time sole administrator of the Association, Mr Babatunde Mukaila, has commended the recent appointment of a new Registrar for the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
Speaking on the development, Mukaila described the appointment of Kingsley Igwe, as a positive step toward unity and progress within Nigeria’s freight forwarding and customs brokerage sectors.
Mukaila expressed optimism regarding the Registrar’s potential, emphasizing the need for collaborative support among all stakeholders. “It’s a welcome development,” he said. “We cannot continue to linger in the dark. The newly-appointed Registrar is not only a practitioner but also a freight forwarder, one of our own within the industry.”
He highlighted the distinction between different branches of the freight forwarding sector, particularly pointing out that this appointment might help clarify roles and responsibilities between organizations like ANLCA and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
“This has clearly established that freight forwarders and customs brokers have unique, complementary roles,” he said. “Freight forwarders like those in CRFFN should focus on their expertise, while ANLCA and customs brokers work on certifying and advancing customs brokerage standards.”
Mukaila also expressed hope that this appointment would unify the sector, resolving any perceived divides between freight forwarding associations. “In a nutshell, I believe all freight forwarding associations should rally behind the new Registrar,” he urged. “There’s no reason not to support this appointment. We’ve long advocated for a Registrar who understands our challenges, and the government has now granted us this opportunity. Let’s collaborate and support”, he concluded.
