The Controller FOU, Zone ‘A’, Comptroller Dan Ugo who made the disclosure recently while supervising the burial of the contraband also warned smugglers to desist from the nefarious activities.
The products were destroyed at a dump site within the command’s workshop.
The destruction was witnessed by representatives of the relevant regulatory agencies, including the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
Buttressing the command’s resolve to tackle smugglers and smuggling, the Controller said that, “the unit will not renege in its statutory functions of suppressing smuggling and facilitating legitimate trade”.
According to him, the latest marching order on zero tolerance to poultry products which emanated from the Customs headquarters has triggered the command’s onslaught and vowed that the unit will stop at nothing in ensuring a sustained war on the importers of these and other products.
Comptroller Ugo pointed out that the service is not unmindful of both the economic and health hazards associated with this unwholesome act, hence the urgent need to put modalities in place to check this illicit trade.
“I am pleased to note that the strategies put in place by the unit in this regard have started yielding results with these latest seizures”, the controller retorted.
He also reiterated the determination of the service and the unit to always protect our indigenous farmers whose contributions in terms of employment generation cannot be over-emphasized.
He equally reiterated the command’s appreciation to the Customs Comptroller General, Alhaji Abdullahi Inde DIKKO and his management team for the support and encouragement, which according to him, is propelling the achievement that the FOU Zone ‘A’ is recording.
