There are strong indications that the lingering fuel scarcity may abate as the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) resumed production of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol last week.
Skip to next paragraphConfirmations came mid week that the refinery has already restored daily supply of 200 trucks of petrol to the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
WRPC stopped production of petrol about three weeks ago due to want the NNPC called technical hitches at one of its major component unit – the Fluid Catalystic Cracking Unit (FCCU).
The Warri refinery, until its closure was the only functional refinery.
Sources confirmed that the leakage in one of the colons of the FCC forced the refinery’s management to shut down the facilities.
The WRPC is expected to assist in solving the acute scarcity which has almost ran economic and social activities aground. IT is said to be producing at 70 per cent of installed capacity.
