Findings by Shipping Position Daily have revealed that the appointment of a substantive Registrar for the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding In Nigeria (CRFFN) may have been stalled owing to a memo from the Ministry of Transportation dated March 27, 2023 stopping the Governing Council of CRFFN from recruiting a new helmsman.
Recall that the council had on 26th of January, appointed Mrs.Chinyere Uromta as the acting Registrar and had called for applications into the position of substantive Registrar/CEO of the Council.
However, since then the Council has not been able to appoint a substantive registrar of the CRFFN.
Our correspondent gathered that even though the Council had asked qualified candidates to come for an interview in Abuja in April, the candidates were however disappointed as the Council refused to carry out the interview.
.The candidates reportedly spent days in Abuja without being interviewed, after which they returned to their various basis. Some of them even complained to our correspondent that the CRFFN governing council did not offset their expenses.
A member of the Governing Council of CRFFN, Dr. Kayode Farinto had in a chat with correspondent recently, stated that the letter that emanated from the Ministry was a misconception and has denied that the letter or the Ministry was responsible for the delay.
He had told our correspondent that the Ministry had given the go-ahead to appoint a substantive registrar of the council.
However, latest findings by our correspondent revealed that the memo by the Ministry may have indeed been the major reason for the delay, this is even as the Vice Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Henry Njoku confirmed to our correspondent that the letter from the Ministry is responsible for the delay.
“You know there was a time the Ministry wrote to them to stop the process of appointing a new Registrar and I think that’s what happened, if not they would have finished by now”, he confirmed.
But, when contacted, the Chairman, Committee on Appointment, Promotion and Discipline of the CRFFN of governing council; Mrs. Ojerinde, refused to speak to our correspondent as regards why the Council has delayed in the appointment of the registrar.
She told our correspondent that she will not be able to comment on it, directing our correspondent to speak with the Chairman of the Governing Council.
Efforts to reach the Chairman of the Governing Council; Abubakar Tsani to react to the allegation were abortive as he refused to reply to all text messages and calls sent to him as at press time
Meanwhile, an inside source who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity alleged that the Council Chairman was delaying the process and waiting for the new administration to appoint a new Minister of Transportation.
The source alleged further that the chairman has plans to appoint a northerner from Kaduna state as the new Registrar of the Council.
