In a show of camaraderie and respect for a labour icon, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) leadership, led by Com. Adewale Adeyanju, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the immediate past President-General of the union, Com. Emmanuel Anthony Nted at his residence in Lagos.
In a press statement issued by the head of media MWUN Kennedy Ikemefuna, the union described Nted as a distinguished figure in labour administration and a former Dockworkers President.
The union said the visit, deemed essential for the Union’s well-being, aimed to honour the legacy of Nted and express appreciation for his impactful tenure.
Having departed the MWUN on a high note, Comrade Nted handed over the reins to the capable hands of Adeyanju, who seamlessly embraced Nted’s leadership principles.
The union added that the transition has resulted in significant successes within the Union and the broader maritime sector.
The visit had the entire delegation of MWUN, including top executives and administrative staff, conveying warm wishes for good health, longevity, and prosperity in the new year.
During the visit, Nted, affectionately known as the “Son of God,” drew inspiration from Holy Books, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good cheer and forgiveness in life. He commended Adeyanju, expressing satisfaction that his successor upheld the principles of MWUN’s leadership.
In response, Adeyanju, flanked by branch presidents and top executives, acknowledged and Com. Nted for his significant contributions to the Union.
He highlighted the continuation of Nted’s legacy and peace initiatives, affirming commitment to building on these foundations for the Union’s collective well-being.
The visit was concluded with prayers for Adeyanju’s remaining tenure, invoking divine guidance and wisdom for the selection of a worthy successor.
