The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has approved the promotion of 1,419 junior officers across various ranks, reflecting the Service’s commitment to advancing its workforce.
This decision was made during the 10th Management meeting, chaired by the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on November 29, 2024.
The promotions span General Duty and Support Staff officers who excelled in the 2024 promotion exercise. A total of 346 General Duty and 384 Support Staff officers were elevated from Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC) to Inspector of Customs (IC). Additionally, four General Duty and 13 Support Staff officers advanced from Customs Assistant I (CAI) to Assistant Inspector of Customs (AIC). Furthermore, 372 General Duty and 59 Support Staff officers were promoted from Customs Assistant II (CAII) to Customs Assistant I (CAI), while 188 General Duty and 54 Support Staff officers moved from Customs Assistant III (CAIII) to Customs Assistant II (CAII).
The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, praised the promoted officers and highlighted the significance of career development in motivating the workforce. He described the advancement as a reflection of the transformative leadership of the NCS management team, which prioritizes career growth to inspire excellence and drive the Service toward exceptional service delivery.
In his remarks, the CGC urged the newly promoted officers to intensify their efforts in achieving the core mandates of the Service, which include revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and trade facilitation. He also reassured the public that the promotion of senior officers is currently being processed and is awaiting approval by the Nigeria Customs Service Board.
