Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has commissioned a 6.5-tonne gas dispensing facility in Rumuji, Rivers State, as part of efforts to improve access to clean energy and address everyday energy needs in the community.
The company also inducted 103 trainees into its 2026 Vocational Innovation Business and Empowerment Scheme (VIBES), reinforcing its commitment to economic empowerment and sustainable development.
The gas facility, executed under NLNG’s Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) framework in collaboration with the Rumuji Cluster Development Foundation (RCDF), is designed to provide residents with safer and more efficient cooking energy, reducing reliance on firewood and kerosene.
NLNG said the project is one of several interventions being implemented in Rumuji, including housing development, road construction, scholarships for 29 students, and empowerment support for 200 women farmers aimed at strengthening long-term socio-economic growth.
According to the company, the new facility offers a practical solution to persistent energy challenges, improving access to cooking gas while promoting cleaner energy alternatives within the community.
In a related development, NLNG formally inducted 103 new beneficiaries into its VIBES programme during a ceremony held in Port Harcourt. The initiative focuses on entrepreneurship and skills development, equipping participants with business knowledge and access to funding opportunities.
The trainees will undergo intensive capacity-building sessions covering financial management, marketing, business strategy, and basic legal knowledge. The programme will conclude with a pitching phase where participants will present business ideas, with selected ventures receiving support.
At the same event, 26 participants from the previous cohort graduated, having completed their training cycle. NLNG noted that many of them have shown measurable progress, including improved financial management, expanded market reach, and increased production capacity.
Speaking at the event, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, Sophia Horsfall, said the initiative reflects the company’s continued investment in inclusive growth across its host communities.
She noted that the transition between graduating and incoming cohorts highlights the sustainability of the programme and its role in driving youth empowerment and enterprise development.
Also speaking, the Manager, Community Relations and Sustainable Development, Yemi Adeyemi, described the performance of the graduating participants as encouraging, noting that the blend of training and financial support has enabled beneficiaries to transform early-stage ideas into structured, revenue-generating businesses.
NLNG maintained that the VIBES programme remains a key pillar of its broader sustainable development strategy, complementing its interventions in education, infrastructure, and healthcare, while fostering a new generation of entrepreneurs across Rivers State.
