The Area Commander, Area ‘B’ command of the Nigerian Police Force, Mr. Julius Okoro has assured freight forwarders and licensed customs agents that the Police will no longer intercept containers along the Apapa corridors, except there is need for such.
Okoro gave the assurance yesterday during a courtesy visit to the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) headquarters in Lagos.
Okoro also disclosed that within his three months in office, as commander under Area B, issues surrounding traffic gridlock has been nipped in the bud.
He urged members of NAGAFF to feel free to visit the command whenever there are issues concerning the police and freight business, adding that the command under his watch will collaborate with the operators to enhance trade facilitation.
He further noted that the courtesy visit to NAGAFF was to ensure that officers who engage in some form of extortion should desist from it.
He maintained that his door is open to every stakeholder in the community adding that “I operate an open door policy and members of NAGAFF can feel free to visit me anytime”.
Speaking earlier, founder of NAGAFF; Dr. Boniface Aniebonam urged members of his association and the trading public to desist from any form of corruption.
He also urged members of the association to shun any form of crime associated with the profession, even as he assured the Area Commander that NAGAFF as an institution, will collaborate with him to achieve success in his position as head of Area ‘B’ command.
