The Port and Terminal Management Academy of Nigeria, (POTEMAN) last week took its training programme to the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) building in Apapa Lagos because of what it described as the exorbitant price of hotels around the area.
The institution which is known for holding periodic professional workshops on ports and terminal management lamented that the frequent use of hotel facilities for its programme is beginning to tell on the finances of the academy.

Registrar of the Academy, Mr. Samuel Babatunde in a chat with Shipping Position Daily during the course of the programme that ended last week said the academy also decided to hold the training at the ITF for other reasons.
According to him, “POTEMA is just like any other training institutions which are making use of the facilities of ITF. It is an organ of the government responsible for the training and retraining of manpower in this country.
He explained that the institute can also benefit from the use of the place in the sense that government organizations pay some commission to companies that send their staff for training at the ITF.
Speaking on the just-concluded programme, Babatunde lamented that many people practicing port and terminal operations today do not have knowledge of what the business is all about, hence the need for the programme.
He stated that “One of the problems we have is logistic problems, many people lack the understanding of what logistics is, this is the responsibility of the institutions we have in the industry today”
