Ahead of the expiration of their contracts in 2012, the Federal Government has constituted a committee to fashion out a smooth transition from the service providers to the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Service Providers were engaged in 2006 by government to assist operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the performance of some key aspects of its function, such as: risk assessment, scanning of containers.
Shipping Position Weekly confirmed that the committee which comprises of officials of the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank of Nigeria, the Service Providers and some others has already commenced work.
A source close to the committee disclosed to our correspondent that government’s decision to constitute the committee may not be unconnected with the need to work ahead of 2012 when the contract of the trio of Cotecna Destination Inspection Nigeria Limited, SGS Scanning Nigeria Limited and Global Scan Systems Ltd) is expected to expire.
