The Director-General, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Osita Aboloma at a sentizisation workshop with stakeholders in the maritime sector has said the organisation has upgraded its website in the quest for zero tolerance on substandard product.
The SON DG, while addressing the stakeholders said with the upgrade, approval and processing of SONCAP certification has become seamless.
Aboloma, while stating the advantages of automated SONCAP, said, “It would help to facilitate online payment, e-billing, e-invoice, among others. And also serve as a tool for trade facilitation
He added that tackling product that arrives in Nigeria without SONCAP will be harnessed only if stakeholders and agencies in the maritime sector collaborate to achieve common success.
Furthermore, he said 75% of bulk product comes from the maritime sector which makes it continually drive to engage with the maritime sector and other sectors to achieve a nation of zero substandard products. He added that robust engagement, strong enforcement and strict monitoring guidance must be initiated for zero tolerance of substandard product.
“We need to disapprove the saying that SON is out there to close down businesses, but our core mandate is to protect Nigerians” he told the stakeholders.
On his part, the Director of SONCAP, Engr. Francis Onyeji, while addressing the stakeholders on how effective and efficient the SONCAP portal is, said among other things that the SONCAP portal with all input from the agency would improve fast tracking of goods within the country, improve stakeholders and sister agencies’ partnership, increase level of compliance among others.
On his part, Dr. Eugene Nweke, former President of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) urged SON management to ensure collaboration with the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to continually educate stakeholders.
