In a move set to revolutionize operations within Nigeria’s maritime industry and facilitate smoother business transactions, Trucks Transit Parks Ltd. (TTP) has unveiled plans to partner with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in deploying E-tag technology with zero cost for truckers.
This initiative is aimed at addressing challenges associated with non-compliance with standard operating procedures and enhancing the ease of doing business for truckers and stakeholders in the maritime sector.
According to a press statement signed by TTP’s Public Relations Manager; Nancy Nnamdi, the decision follows the endorsement of E-tag technology by the Managing Director of NPA, Mr Mohammed Bello Koko during an expanded stakeholders meeting held on April 23rd, 2024. It noted that TTP, after extensive consultations with key stakeholders and the NPA, has committed to funding the entire project, emphasizing its commitment to bolstering the digital infrastructure of Nigeria’s ports.
Managing Director of TTP, Mr Jama Onwubuariri emphasized the company’s dedication to investing substantial resources into the project. “We firmly believe in the long-term sustainability of the port ecosystem and are proud to partner with the NPA and the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to deploy E-tag technology,” stated Onwubuariri.
Key features of the deployment agreement include TTP financing the entire deployment, covering all trucks accessing both Apapa and Tincan Island ports, including industrial company trucks. The E-tag system will replace traditional paper-based Minimum Safety Standards (MSS) with an electronic secure tagging system, enabling real-time monitoring of truck safety status and enhancing compliance measures.
The statement noted that TTP views the adoption of RFID technology and the E-tag system as crucial steps in enhancing security and compliance within Nigerian ports. The integrated solution, developed in-house by TTP’s team of experts, is tailored to address industry-specific needs and mitigate fraudulent activities by truckers.
By embracing this collaborative effort, the NPA demonstrates its commitment to technological advancement, security enhancement within the maritime industry, and the ease of doing business for the nation and its citizens.
