The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, has said that the walkathon organised as part of the 2026 Police Week celebrations symbolises unity, discipline, and a shared responsibility in ensuring safety and security within Nigeria’s port environment and beyond.
Agbaminoja made this known on Tuesday during the Command’s walkathon held in Apapa, Lagos, which formed part of activities lined up for the ongoing Police Week.
According to her, the initiative goes beyond physical exercise, serving as a strategic platform to strengthen collaboration between the police, maritime stakeholders, and the general public.
“The walkathon symbolizes unity, discipline, and the shared responsibility of ensuring safety and security within the port environment and beyond,” she stated.
The event attracted a wide range of participants, including officers of the Command, stakeholders in the maritime sector, and members of the public, all of whom joined in the early morning exercise across designated port corridors.
She further noted that the Police Week celebration offers the Force an opportunity to not only reflect on its achievements but also deepen engagement with the communities it serves.
The walkathon was conducted peacefully under tight security coordination, with participants displaying professionalism, camaraderie, and commitment to service.
The Ports Authority Police Command also expressed appreciation to stakeholders and the public for their active participation, reiterating its commitment to initiatives that foster trust, cooperation, and collective progress.
Activities marking the 2026 Police Week are expected to continue with stakeholder engagements on safety, presentation of cheques to families of fallen officers, as well as a grand parade and tactical display.
