Head, Corporate Affairs of the Council; Mrs Uromta Chinyere the regulatory body equally vowed that payment of subscription fees by freight forwarding associations to the Council is not negotiable must, and that defaulters would be prosecuted.
Uromta quoted the the CRFFN Registrar; Sir Mike Jukwe as saying that not all the associations have paid the annual subscription fees, adding that defaulters would soon be made to face appropriate sanctions.
“The CRFFN has re-affirmed her readiness to ensure full implementation and enforcement of the ‘Act’ establishing the Council’, the statement stressed.
The Registrar in the statement, revealed that the Council is now better poised for action as it would soon carry out oversight function on all registered associations, corporate as well as individual freight forwarders to ensure that only registered freight forwarders are allowed to practice.
On the mode of registration of practitioners by the Council, Sir Jukwe explained that the accreditation of freight forwarding associations and registration of freight forwarders by the Council are done strictly in compliance with the laid down regulations, insisting that the Council has not in any way lowered the set standards against the claims by the ANLCA President, Prince Shittu.
He also refuted the claim by Shittu that no fewer than eight freight forwarding associations were waiting to be registered and accredited by the CRFFN, since the Council has not received the applications.
He further explained that the existence of the Council is not dependent upon any individual, corporate body or association since CRFFN is a statutory organ of the Federal Government established by an Act, in the likes of Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON). He added that the achievements of the Council, despite its lean resource since its take – off in 2009 speak for it.
Sir Jukwe also spoke on the proposed professional fees that will be collected by freight forwarders for their services and a common billing template, saying that adequate consultations had been carried out.
The CRFFN boss revealed that after a closed door meeting with the leadership of the various freight forwarding associations recently in Lagos, the President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents: Prince Olayiwola Shittu was made the Chairman of the committee to harmonize positions and report back to the Council.
He also disclosed that the Council will train more than 300 freight forwarders at Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management in 2015.
