The Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, has emphasised the need to review and create greater awareness for cross border movement of goods and persons in the African region.
Abdullahi made the observation yesterday at the 14th Meeting of Committee of Experts of World Customs Organisation for West and Central Africa Region in Abuja.
The Comptroller-General, represented by the Deputy Controller-General, Enforcement, Alhaji Musa Tahir, said the essence of the review was to facilitate trade and economic activities within member nations.

Abdullahi made the observation yesterday at the 14th Meeting of Committee of Experts of World Customs Organisation for West and Central Africa Region in Abuja.
The Comptroller-General, represented by the Deputy Controller-General, Enforcement, Alhaji Musa Tahir, said the essence of the review was to facilitate trade and economic activities within member nations.
He said that there was need to review the cross border movement among member countries due to recent threat of diseases like Ebola that almost paralysed economic activities in the region.
Abdullahi urged the committee to give priority to issues bothering on regional security, influx of arms and ammunitions which had become an emerging menace in the region.
“I extend my deepest sympathy and concern to our sister administrations of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leaone who have joined us today.
“You will recall that on account of the Ebola epidemic, these sister administrations could not register their presence in recent activities of the WCO in the region.
“We must all come together as a region and support them in these trying times. I am optimistic that soon they will be fully reintegrated into our regional activities.
“No doubt this meeting will be two days of serious business for you. However I enjoin you to find time to relax and enjoy the hospitality of our Federal Capital city, Abuja.’’
Dikko said that the theme proposed for the 20th Conference of Directors General of Customs was “Coordinated Border Management: An inclusive Approach in Connecting Stakeholders.''
