Insider sources hinted Shipping Position Daily last week that, under the new arrangement, there will now be a body called Maritime Security Committee and will take charge of issues that border on maritime security in Nigeria, including the implementation of the International Ships and Ports Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
The source hinted that the preponderance of evidences before the Federal Government is so overwhelming that President Muhammadu Buhari is desirous of putting an end to oil theft, piracy, sea robbery and other forms of criminality of the nation’s waterways.
“The documents that are available to the Presidency and the evidences that have been garnered are such that we can’t wait to clean up the mess. The President understands all that happened about the security contact, he has also been briefed about the implementation of the ISPS Code”.
However, our correspondents confirmed that the Joda report categorically supported the re-presentation of the MASECA. Our source confirmed that what is delaying the constitution of the new Maritime Security Commission is its membership, which the Joda committee had pegged at six. “We are still trying to sort out issues about the committee’s chairman”, he disclosed.
