Less than 24 hours after he officially handed over as the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mallam Habib Abdullahi has received knocks from senior employees of the agency, under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Communications Transport and corporation (SSACTAC), Maritime branch, over  alleged poor remuneration for workers.

President of SSACTAC Maritime Branch, Comrade Benson Adegbeyeni in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos yesterday, expressed disappointment at the former Managing Director, even as he urged his successor;   Lamido Sanusi  Ado Bayero    to step on toes in order for him to succeed.
He said that in the last two years when Habib Abdulahi held sway as MD of NPA, the workers did not benefit from the agency, even as he added that  the  current leadership of union under his watch inherited  members welfare issues from his predecessor; Comrade Umar Jimoh Omeiza.
He said, "Habib Abdullahi rose from the personnel department of NPA to what he was, but he failed to understand that workers are supposed to be taken proper care of".
Adegbeyeni stressed that for the new MD to succeed in his quest to move NPA forward, there is the need for him to partner with the two workers unions.

He also advised that the new MD should be wary of sycophants, saying that people will come for the sole aim of benefiting from him to destroy his reputation.
The SSACTAC top man advised the new helmsman not to behave like his predecessor, but put smiles on the faces of the workers.

Adegbeyeni also said that concessioning of the ports has caused more havoc than good; pointing out that the process is a complete failure.

Narrating some of the challenges awaiting the new managing director, the SSACTAC boss said that the lingering traffic gridlock being experienced in Apapa and its environs falls on the shoulders of the MD boss.

Adegbeyeni reiterated that, "the new MD has already inherited so many problem because the ousted MD failed to address such problems"

"The challenges are numerous, which include the new minimum wage, where we even have the minister of labour making moves to review another one yet NPA is yet to get its own".
Giving an example, he said: "For the last four years my salary has not changed, even during the reign of Habib Abdullahi, it is still the same and that is why I am advising the new MD to understand that truly he has inherited so many challenges"

"We have been promised up to this period, yet we have not earned the new wages, promotion and the issue of financial guide is also there", he added.
